Dokter Bamford heeft genoeg van het dorpsleven en verlangt wanhopig naar enige afstand van de nieuwsgierige buren in Cornwall. Als de plaatselijke makelaar hem Tregunnt Farm # verlaten en kilometers ver van waar dan ook # laat zien, is het liefde op het eerste gezicht. Maar ook de familie Bowden uit Londen heeft het pand op het oog met de bedoeling het omringende land te gaan ontwikkelen tot lelijke vakantiehuisjes. Doc besluit de de familie bang te maken om ze te laten vertrekken door zich voor te doen als het Beest van Bodmin.
