Terwijl hij filmt tegen de duizelingwekkende schoonheid van het Marokkaanse landschap, van het ruige terrein van het Atlasgebergte tot de grimmige en surrealistische leegte van de woestijn, met zijn oprukkende zand en verlaten filmsets, verlaat een regisseur zijn eigen filmset en vervalt in een hallucinerende, gevaarlijk avontuur vol wreedheid, waanzin en boosaardigheid. Een Paul Bowles-verhaal gecombineerd met observatiemateriaal vormt een meerlagige opgraving in de illusie van cinema zelf.
